BREAKING NEWS!!!!
This just in...A groundhog MIGHT not actually tell us when winter ends. If you don't feel like reading the column I'll explain. The National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, NC looked into the data and found "there is no predictive skill for the groundhog during the most recent years of the analysis,". Well, um, I don't really know what to say now...In an unrelated story the TSA has announced that Santa Claus doesn't actually fly around the world on a sleigh. It's none of my concern what people decide to waste their money on, but to then announce that something that is obviously fictional, is in fact, fictional. I don't exactly understand the premise of Groundhog Day, if Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow then 6 more weeks of winter but if he doesn't see his shadow then winter will end soon. The actual end of winter isn't until March 21st, which is right around 6 weeks away. I know that I'm looking into something that is an old tradition and isn't meant to be taken seriously, but when The National Climatic Data Center decides to publish this news they must be made fun of.
